Robinsons of the Cosmos. Escape from Earth

France is not a very fantastic country compared to, for example, America or England. Who, besides Jules Verne, can you recall among French science fiction writers? Almost no one. Roni the Elder with his «Fight for Fire», Maurice Renard, Gérard Klein… Who else? But there is a name in French science fiction that our domestic reader surely knows — it is Francis Carsac. The novel «Robinsons of the Cosmos», translated and published in our country in the very early 1960s, immediately elevated Carsac to one of the leading places in the ranking of Russian readers' sympathies. A universal catastrophe, a piece of the planet is torn from Earth, and the people living on it find themselves millions of kilometers from home, in a world that needs to be mastered and conquered. The novel «Escape from Earth» is the story of a man from a distant future who tells people of the contemporary era about the disaster that will threaten the planet and how the great-grandchildren, for the sake of saving humanity, will dare to undertake a grand experiment — the «escape» of Earth to the orbit of a foreign sun.
