In her youth, Patricia Lockwood experienced a terrible shock: she witnessed her father's murder, and she herself was kidnapped. At the same time, two valuable paintings disappeared from her home. Patricia was held for several months in a horrible forest cabin, where the bodies of nine young women were later found. By some miracle, Patricia managed to escape, the kidnappers were never found, and the stolen paintings vanished without a trace. Now, twenty years later, one of the stolen paintings and a leather suitcase with the initials V.L. belonging to Patricia's cousin Vin Lockwood is found in the penthouse of a murdered man. For the first time in many years, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has a lead in this cold case. Vin, who worked with the FBI in his youth, begins the search at the request of the agents... After all, he has what they lack: a personal interest, rare luck, and his own sense of justice...
