Wilhelm Hauff (1802-1827) - a renowned German storyteller, was born into the family of a Prussian Foreign Ministry employee and a noblewoman from Alsace. The boy was only 7 years old when his father passed away, and the family moved... to his grandfather's estate in the city of Tübingen. The vast library became the favorite place for young Wilhelm, and the books became his best friends. After graduating from the university, Hauff became a governess for the family of the Minister of Defense - General Baron von Högel. It was for his young wards that Wilhelm began to write fairy tales. The magical tales of W. Hauff were first published in the January 1826 Almanac of Fairy Tales for the sons and daughters of the noble classes and immediately found numerous admirers. During Hauff's lifetime, two collections of his fairy tales were published; another collection was released by his wife three years after his death.
