In the coronary therapy unit of one of Denmark's leading medical centers, a nurse fills a syringe and enters the room of an elderly patient.
Six days earlier, a newspaper delivery man in the heart of Copenhagen comes across a horrific... discovery: the naked body of a dead woman lying in a fountain. The victim's arms and thighs bear strange symmetrical cuts. The cause of death appears to be exsanguination.
While investigator Jeppe Kerner searches the streets of Copenhagen in vain for the killer, his partner Anette Werner, who is on maternity leave, decides to conduct her own independent investigation. But she has no idea what monstrous dangers she will have to face in order to find the criminal.
