Nicolka Persik. Anya in Wonderland

This edition consists of two books translated by Vladimir Nabokov in 1920–1923: "Nicolka Persik" and "Kola Bryunyon" by Romain Rolland and "Anya in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll. Having mastered French and English from childhood, Nabokov, at the beginning of his... literary career, tackled two equally challenging works for translation and demonstrated a virtuoso command of the Russian language, managing to reproduce the wordplay, imagery, and verses of the originals. In this regard, the translation experiments of the future author of "The Gift" and "Ada" reveal the beginnings of his sophisticated literary style. "Nicolka Persik" was apparently the first Russian translation of "Kola Bryunyon," while "Anya in Wonderland" was recognized as one of the best translations of "Alice" into Russian.
