Sri Paramahansa Yogananda (1893-1952) was sent to America by his Guru with the following admonition: "The material achievements of the West are very high, but it lacks spiritual understanding and deep meditation, which brings True Salvation. According to the will of the Almighty Creator, your mission is to help humanity understand how important it is to have a balance between the outer, material and inner, spiritual aspects of life."

At the age of 27, Yogananda arrived in the USA, where he lived until the end of his life, introducing hundreds of thousands of people to the Teachings of Kriya Yoga. Today, Swami Yogananda has many followers all over the world.
