I quit my job and took all my savings, and when they run out, I will end my life. Michael Kabongo is a charismatic thirty-year-old teacher. He is almost like Holden Caulfield, only he doesn't catch his students in a rye field but in the slums of London, yet he is also, in some sense, “over the abyss.” Unable to look at the injustices of the world and live pretending that nothing is happening, Michael decides to embark on a journey through the land of freedom – the United States of America. He will travel from Dallas to San Francisco, meet new people, have a fleeting romance, get involved in several adventures, all with the understanding that when his savings run out, he will part with life. And when his journey comes to an end, Michael will have to honestly answer himself: is life really worth living? The main character of this book seeks the answer to the question that Shakespeare posed long ago: "To be or not to be?" Is it possible to escape from oneself, from one’s feelings and one’s life? This book is a reflection, a search for one’s place in a world where there seems to be no warmth and understanding for lost, wounded souls. But sometimes, in order to return to oneself, one must go a long way, during which life itself will provide answers and allow healing of wounds. The main thing is to be ready.
