To Love and Not to Suffer

The masochistic type of character is one of the most common in our country. For some, it manifests as individual traits, while for others, it resembles a reinforced concrete structure: so rigid and set in its ways. In our country,... it is often customary to take pride in our sufferings and how much we can endure or withstand. This type of character has been most studied by psychoanalysts. The author's task is to understand the nature of the formation of this character, to see how the inner world of a masochist is arranged, as well as to help understand how the relatives of a person who repeatedly chooses suffering feel.
