The Art of Speech

Professor of the Department of Stage Speech at the School-Studio of the Moscow Art Theatre, Doctor of Arts Anna Nikolaevna Petrova answers all these questions and insists: competent and good speech is increasingly in demand in life and especially in... professional activities and has become a status category in recent years. It is no coincidence that many public figures – politicians, businessmen, journalists, teachers – consider it necessary to improve their speech.
Good speech will always be an attribute of any educated person, helping one to establish oneself in society, influence the "mind, passions, and will of others", become the holder of a prestigious job, and find a worthy circle of communication.
Is it easy or difficult to master competent speech, is it even possible? Anna Nikolaevna categorically states with her book: yes, it is possible. But one must learn this.
The book "The Art of Speech" about the Russian language, its laws and rules is the result of many years of personal practice, observations, and research by the author; an acquaintance with the activities of many different schools of speech art training, as well as with the artistic experience of Russian theater.
The book gathers and reinterprets the laws and rules of speech, the methodological foundations of learning the art of the living word: today's reflections, new knowledge, past convincing and effective experience; mistakes and miscalculations of practice. In this regard, many materials from the author's other works have been again collected and published.
