The Art of Speech

Professor of Speech at the School-Studio of the Moscow Art Theatre, Doctor of Arts Anna Nikolaevna Petrova answers all these questions and insists: competent and good speech in life and especially in professional activities is increasingly in demand and has become a status category in recent years. It is no coincidence that many public figures – politicians, businessmen, journalists, educators – consider it necessary to improve their speech.
Good speech will always be an attribute of any educated person, helping one to establish themselves in society, to influence the 'mind, passions, and will of others', to gain a prestigious job, and to find a worthy circle of communication.
Is it easy or difficult to master competent speech, is it even possible? Anna Nikolaevna clearly states in her book: yes, it is possible. But one needs to learn this.
The book 'The Art of Speech' about Russian speech, its laws and rules is the result of many years of personal practice, observations, and research by the author; acquaintance with the activities of many different schools teaching the art of speech, as well as with the artistic experience of Russian theatre.
The book collects and re-evaluates the laws and rules of speech, the methodological foundations of teaching the art of live word: today's reflections, new knowledge, and past convincing and effective experiences; mistakes and miscalculations from practice. In this regard, many materials from the author's other works have been gathered and published again.
