Today, the name of the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai is known, perhaps, all over the world. Hokusai is one of the leading masters of color woodblock printing of the Edo period (Tokugawa 1603–1868) and one of the most famous artists... of Japan in the world. He is well-known in Europe, Russia, much has been written about him, his works are researched and studied, and his exhibitions are regularly held in different countries, documentaries about his creativity are made. Hokusai was one of those masters who initiated the discovery of Japanese art as an independent artistic world, one of the first to become known in the West. Hokusai's legacy is immense. He lived a long life, almost 90 years, and during that time created a vast number of works. These include printmaking, book illustrations, painted scrolls and screens, monumental murals. To date, there are about thirty thousand units of his works. Each new researcher and new era discovers previously unknown, different, and resonant aspects of his creativity.
