On board the ship Six Thousand, where the heroes live, mysterious events unfold. The ship's crew, consisting of humans and humanoids, works together to perform routine tasks.
By the... time the logbook reaches us, something irreparable has happened. The crew brings on board several strange objects from the planet New Discovery. The objects cause "perpetual deviations" among the staff. Constructed as a series of witness statements compiled by a workplace committee, Ravn's prose is an attempt to understand what happened.

Personnel explores what it means to be human, emotionally and ontologically, while simultaneously critiquing a life governed by work and the logic of productivity.
