Throughout her long life, Nadezhda Alexandrovna Teffi (1872-1952) made her mark in almost all literary genres. However, among the variety of plots in the writer's work, three main lines clearly dominated. Most often, readily, and successfully, she wrote about children,... about "our smaller brothers," and about the most diverse female types. The 'female' theme, which modern critics have recognized as a revolution in literature, is the focus of this volume. It consists of selected stories, including those not included in her lifetime collections, as well as the only example of the novel genre in Teffi's work. The book is accompanied by lyrical and ironic illustrations by Olga Grablevskaya.
