Faust

The legend of the learned Johann Faust, who sold his soul to Mephistopheles in exchange for his promise to unveil the secrets of the universe, show the depths of hell and paradise, and enrich him with new knowledge, has long stirred human imagination. Thus, Doctor Faust, who was generously attributed with all sorts of miracles, became the hero of the German people. The great black magician was a character in theatrical performances, and many authors turned to his image, but it was under Goethe's pen that this story became one of the true peaks of world literature. «Faust» by Goethe poses riddles, and more than one generation of readers has tried to decipher them.
