Sleepy Trams

The book is a complete collection of poems written by Osip Mandelstam for children. The cycle of illustrations created in 1989-1990 by the renowned Petersburg graphic artist Vera Pavlova is published for the first time. The edition has been prepared... by the authoritative Mandelstam textologist Sergey Vasilenko; all texts for this edition have been verified against the primary sources. An article by art historian Dmitry Severukhin is included in the appendix, dedicated to the illustrators of Mandelstam's books. The author of the article examines Vera Pavlova's graphics as a new word in the artistic interpretation of Mandelstam's children's poems: it is based on a romantic representation of the 1920s, conveyed through everyday objects, dialogues between animated characters and inanimate objects that are attributes of a bygone era.
