The role of nurses has never been more evident. We benefit from their kindness in hospitals and beyond – in schools, on the streets, in prisons, hospices, and nursing homes. When we feel very lonely, nurses remind us that we... are not alone. Christi Watson tells the vast story of nursing. A psychiatric nurse helps a man suffering from severe depression. A teenager with stab wounds is saved by a critical care team; he is visited by a school nurse, and he changes his behavior. A pregnant woman loses a frightening amount of blood after a car accident, and a military nurse synchronizes the emergency room with impeccable professionalism. Christi Watson lifts another veil – it is the patients and their families who demonstrate exceptional strength in the toughest times. We all deserve compassion, and the author shows us how by sharing each other's suffering, we can gain courage. The courage to care.
