Unusual Mathematics After Lessons. For Children 7 Years Old

The series of workbooks "Unusual Mathematics" for preschoolers appeared a few years ago. Very soon, these workbooks became loved by children, parents, and teachers.We decided to continue this line of workbooks and create the "Mouse-matics" series for elementary school students.... We tried to make these workbooks not too complicated, without the trickiest olympiad tasks, but at the same time diverse and interesting.In the workbook for 7-year-olds, you will find quite a few visual arithmetic tasks that differ from school ones. Often, we present arithmetic problems with visual materials first, for example, how many beads are hidden or how many sticks are missing in the picture. We teach children to relate tens and units, combining tens into full trucks, and units into incomplete ones. However, it would be strange to reduce all mathematics to arithmetic problems. In our workbook, you will find logical puzzles and geometric riddles, as well as problems that have multiple correct solutions.We included tasks in this workbook that contain almost no text. Sometimes, it's precisely slow reading speed or poor text comprehension skills that hinder children from successfully solving math problems. That is why we aimed to formulate tasks briefly and provide examples. In addition, we created several tasks where children need to match the problem text with a diagram related to that problem. We offer a series of progressively more complex logical tasks about flowcharts and towers built by a construction robot, as well as a series of simple problems with funny monsters - focusing on the ability to use tables. (Adults may find this very easy. Nevertheless, experience shows that children are not born with the inherent ability to extract information from tables.) We have prepared a variety of spatial reasoning tasks – including familiar ones from previous workbooks with arrows – about a bird in a cage, as well as tasks about a mouse visiting and words that need to be read while moving through a letter maze.In this workbook, you will find various tasks on coordinates, puzzles with chocolates that need to be divided among twins (into 2 parts, identical in shape and number of squares), and several tasks about scale. Simple symmetry tasks are gradually replaced with trickier problems about butterflies and pairs of mittens. Additionally, in our workbook, you will find ciphers, anagrams, and rebuses, magic squares, and sequences in pictures.We hope that each child will be able to find mathematical problems in this workbook that will bring them joy.
