Karna Parva (The Book of Karna. Covers the battles and duels during two (sixteenth and seventeenth) days of the eighteen-day battle of Kurukshetra)
Shalya Parva (The Book of Shalya. Narrates the battles and duels on the last day of the eighteen-day battle of Kurukshetra)
Sauptika Parva ("The Book of the Massacre of Sleeping Warriors") — the tenth book of the "Mahabharata". It recounts the dishonorable extermination of the Pandava army by Drona's son named Ashwatthama after the Kauravas were defeated in the battle of Kurukshetra.
Stri Parva ("The Book of Wives") — the eleventh book of the "Mahabharata". It narrates the events that occurred after Ashwatthama treacherously destroyed the sleeping Pandava army, avenging the death of the Kauravas in the battle of Kurukshetra. The "Stri Parva" describes the grief of the wives of the fallen warriors.
Shanti Parva (The Book of Peace). This book is the largest in the "Mahabharata". It presents conversations of heroes and sages on various topics.

Anushasana Parva - The Book of Instruction. In this highly elevated book, it tells how Yudhishthira, now the indisputable king of the Kuru house, overcomes his despair by listening to Bhishma's exhaustive discussions on spiritual principles and returns to his normal state. Bhishma, son of Ganga, explains human affairs in terms of material and spiritual needs. He also explains what results can be achieved through various forms of charity. It describes those in need of charity and the general principle covering all types of charity. Furthermore, Bhishma discusses the rules of human behavior, their practical application, and the highest purpose of truth.
Ashvamedhika Parva - The Book of Horse Sacrifice. It narrates the unification of all kingdoms under the leadership of the Pandavas after they achieved victory over the Kauravas. It includes one of the most important philosophical texts of the Mahabharata—the Anugita, which is a continuation of the Bhagavad Gita.
