Pythagoras of Samos (c. 570 - c. 490 BC) was an ancient Greek philosopher and mathematician, the founder of the religious-philosophical school of the Pythagoreans. He preached metempsychosis, the doctrine of the transmigration of souls, vegetarianism, and the harmony of... the spheres. Pythagoras' teachings became the foundation for discoveries in mathematics, astrology, and music theory. He was a student of Pherecydes, Thales, Anaximander, and Anaximenes. In the book Golden Laws and Moral Sufferings, modern philosopher Alexander Markov reconstructs the life and scientific achievements of the ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras.
