New Glagovki: a story

The book of stories by Vladimir Avdoshin is dedicated to a modern suburban village and its inhabitants, whose everyday life and existence today cannot be divided into urban and rural. Sima, Galina, Lyubinka, Nina - youth and maturity have given themselves to the city and its arrangements, but in the twilight of their years, they have returned to the village, and now their kindness and concern nurture little dacha resident Lyusya Lapina. The problems faced by the village men echo those of the country and its major events in the second half of the 20th century. The gas pipeline "Pomary - Uzhgorod" was not only a state program but also a task for the strong hands of rural men, while the restoration of the village church in the late 90s was a significant, unifying community endeavor for both village and city. The houses built by the villagers, the shade of trees, dogs, cats, and birds tell the story of the people in the village. And every heartfelt movement of the multi-layered rural society is conveyed by the writer with precise words and expressive narrative intonation.
