The Monastic Hood: A Novel.

A detective novel by English writer Ellis Peters (1913-1995) from the series about the investigations of amateur sleuth Brother Cadfael. The Bonel family comes to the Benedictine monastery with the intention of bequeathing their possessions to the community in exchange for a lifetime pension. Suddenly, Gervase Bonel falls ill. Cadfael, a skilled healer and herbalist, rushes to help the sick man, but all his efforts are in vain: Bonel dies. The surprises do not end there. In Bonel's wife, Cadfael recognizes his former fiancée Richildis, and her son Edwin is accused of murder.
