Peyton Earnshaw, a renowned journalist, marries Galen Horvat to gain access to compromising material on his grandmother, Alice Horvat, who once headed the 'Horvat International' corporation and at one time fired her father. Since childhood, her father instilled in Peyton that it was Alice who was to blame for their misfortunes and for the death of her mother, who, after her husband’s dismissal, could not receive the necessary medical care.
