England in the near future. The coalition tracks anyone, anywhere by a chip implanted in every person at birth.
Jacob Riley escapes from the Academy — a strict orphanage housing children of various ages. The teenager's parents have died. He, along with his dog Jet, wants to get from England to free Scotland, where his grandparents live. But how can he do that?
However, the boy and his dog get a chance to escape from the England they have come to hate when they encounter the Runaways.
This group of teenagers moves across the country, remaining invisible to government structures. The rules of the Runaways are strict, but they must be followed if one wants to stay alive.
