A photo story of three years of observing the living world in nature parks and reserves of Kamchatka. The author, renowned nature photographer Igor Shpilenok, showcased Kamchatka, which he loves and knows — where there are no roads, where helicopters only...
visit when absolutely necessary, where humans merge with wild nature and become a part of it, and animals stop being afraid and live their lives without regard for the presence of humans. «One Hundred Sacred Years» is the result of a four-year (2013–2016) trans-Russian photo expedition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the reserve system in Russia. The author traveled 60,000 kilometers in a van, visiting more than 50 reserves and national parks, capturing the nature that has been preserved. His vehicle journeyed to the shores of the Bering and Okhotsk seas, the volcanic plateaus of Kamchatka, traversed Primorye, Priamurye, Baikal, the vastness of Siberia, and visited both the Southern and Northern Urals as well as the White Sea. The result: three volumes of a photo book with stunning landscapes, rare animals, and simply interesting shots of places where few people have been. The accompanying text tells the story of the author's journey (in the spirit of Steinbeck, in simple chronological order, with all sorts of incidents and adventures) and the history of the reserve system in Russia — with its problems and achievements, as well as brief descriptions of each reserve.
