Henry Kuttner, who published not only under his real surname but also under a good dozen of pseudonyms, is considered one of the four or five leading American science fiction writers of the 1940s. Legendary genre magazines such as «Future», «Thrilling Wonder», «Planet Stories» and «Weird Tales» more than willingly accepted works written by him either solo or in collaboration with his wife, the renowned master of science fiction and fantasy Catherine Lucille Moore; it happened that a whole issue of a magazine was dedicated to Kuttner's work. Almost everything created by this author has a touch of genius, but he especially excelled at the «short literary form»: stories about the Hogbens mutants, the eccentric inventor Gallagher, and many others, seasoned with inimitable humor, instilled a lasting love for science fiction in several generations of readers. Almost all the works included in this collection are published in Russian for the first time or in a new translation. The novellas «A God Named Krall» and «Child's Hour» have been honored with the «Hugo» award.
