The proposed edition consists of two sections: exercises and tasks for improving reading techniques (“Reading Rules”) and for learning background reading (“Tales” and “Legends”). The first section covers phenomena of phonetic reduction, such as glottalization, assimilation, aspiration, and palatalization. The... second section includes twenty-seven tales and twelve legends, based on which skills for background reading are formed: in addition to getting used to the increasing volume of Korean graphic symbols, beginners studying the Korean language gradually accumulate background knowledge through the assimilation of the realities of the country and culture of the studied language. You can check the completed exercises and tasks yourself using the “Answers” section.
The third part of the textbook “Simple Korean” is intended for university students studying in the fields of “Linguistics,” “Pedagogical Education (Foreign Language),” as well as for anyone who wants to learn to read Korean independently.
The reading book can be used both independently and as part of the textbook “Simple Korean.”
