Hitchhiking is an unreliable way to get around. Moreover, in such heat, no driver will open the cabin door wide enough for you to climb in. Such are the conclusions of Jack Reacher, a former military policeman who is hastily leaving a Texas town due to problems with a local cop. Jack doesn't care who agrees to give him a ride, just as long as it happens quickly. To his complete astonishment, a car stops on the scorching road three minutes after he thumbed a ride. This is Reacher's personal record. Especially since behind the wheel of a luxurious Cadillac is a woman — beautiful, young, and seemingly wealthy. But it's too early to be deceived — she is driven by anything but heartfelt kindness or a sudden attraction to a stranger. Carmen Greer poses a danger, and she is counting on his help. Her plan sounds incredible, if not wild, but first of all, Reacher literally has nowhere to go, and secondly, he has never been able to resist a lady in distress. Taking risks is nothing new for him, and if Jack Reacher can't sort things out, then who can?..
