Herbert Wells (1866–1946) was a pioneer in the science fiction genre; he was one of the first to apply and develop the theme of time travel. At first glance, the society of the future appears quite attractive: technological progress has stagnated, but its achievements are so great that people lead a relatively affluent existence. However, a closer acquaintance with the descendants reveals terrible secrets of their lives and issues a sentence on the prospects of all humanity. It conveys a call to not separate the development of technology from humanitarian values and to remember the nature of Homo sapiens — not just a human, but a rational human being.
