It is difficult for me to say what this book is about. Partly it is about Odessa, which no longer exists. And such Odessa will never exist again. It is about the life that was, is, and will always be.... About what more than anything in the world a little girl needs is a reliable, understanding dad. If he exists - great! If he doesn't - that's not a problem either. I wish that all little girls had this wonderful, reliable, understanding dad. But more than anything, I would wish for all women and men, especially men!, to be mature, independent, controlling their own lives. Only then will children - both girls and boys - and even cities be well-off. This book is about growing up. But even for a very grown-up, independent, toughest person, it is nice to know that they are remembered, that they are loved. Just as I remember Odessa and love Odessa.
