The criticism was... vibrant. «Onegin is the most heartfelt work of Pushkin, his most beloved child of imagination, and one can point out too few creations in which the poet's personality is reflected with such fullness, clearly and distinctly, as it is reflected in Onegin's personality,» wrote V.G. Belinsky about the novel. And, as time showed, it became a central event in Russian culture as a whole. A.S. Pushkin himself called the work on the novel a feat.
