About the Russian Empress Elizabeth Petrovna (1709-1761), daughter of Peter the Great, an impression has formed, inspired by the famous lines of A.K. Tolstoy: "The cheerful queen was Elizabeth." Without disputing her love of pleasure, her passion for garments and... the delights provided by the throne, the author attempts to complicate this image, explain the motives behind her actions, and supplement her portrait with strokes that not only historians but sometimes even contemporaries paid little attention to.
This edition is naturally complemented by the essay "The Russian Court in 1761" by F. Lafermiere, one of the mentors and confidants of Paul I during his time as heir to the throne, as well as chapters dedicated to the Elizabethan era in Russian history from the works of the classics of domestic historical thought V.O. Klyuchevsky and N.I. Kostomarov.
The project "Gatherers of Russian Land" is being implemented by the Russian Military Historical Society with the support of the "United Russia" party.
