Britain in the early 18th century. England finally officially annexed Scotland, creating a united kingdom. However, many freedom-loving Scots were not fond of the newly formed kingdom. The Jacobites, supporters of the exiled royal descendants, sharpen their black knives and claymores, preparing for another uproar. In this tumultuous time, a strange creature dwelled in the wild Borders - neither a dwarf nor a man, lacking a shadow. It lived in the swamp and was rather unkind to people. Yet some occasionally visited it, for this creature possessed the ability to heal and cast spells.
In the next volume of "Masters of Adventure" comes the mysterious novel by Walter Scott "The Black Dwarf," revealing the truth about the era of old Nancy, that is, Queen Anne - the first ruler of Great Britain and the last of the Stuart line.
