This collection of illustrations is based on the original collection of engravings by John Boydell, a key figure in British printmaking in the field of artistic publishing at the end of the 18th century.
The foundation of this publication is the collection of engravings for the 9-volume edition of the dramatic works of William Shakespeare and a separate 2-volume edition - a luxurious, richly illustrated artistic publication in large format with "Shakespearean" engravings published in 1803 in London.
More than 100 reproductions showcase engravings made after paintings by the most outstanding masters of painting and bas-relief of that time for the Boydell publishing house ("John & Josiah Boydell") and the famous "Shakespeare Gallery" ("Boydell's Shakespeare Gallery"), distinguished by the unique unparalleled technique of the "golden age" of the English graphic school. The sources for the high-quality collection of illustrations were engravings provided by the State Hermitage, the State Museum of Fine Arts named after A. S. Pushkin, and the Scientific Library of Tomsk State University.
