The respectable Dr. Jekyll is forced to lead a double life, until a dangerous scientific experiment brings forth the embodiment of his second "self" – the evil monster Mr. Hyde, while Dr. Moreau seeks to create a new society from the beast-people he has made. The endings in both cases are tragic: both experimenters perish, as nature cruelly avenges mindless interference in her laws.
