The main investigation is led by talented Inspector Sugden with the support of Colonel Johnson, the head of the local police. Since on the evening of the murder Colonel Johnson's friend, Hercule Poirot, was visiting, the colonel invites the famous detective to help solve the murder as an unofficial consultant, and he, as always, brilliantly handles the task at hand.
