In the previous edition, John Perkins exposes the destructive machinations of "economic killers": he writes that they are highly paid professionals who siphon trillions of dollars from countries around the world. They use methods such as falsified financial reports, rigged elections, blackmail, extortion, sex, and murder.
Perkins himself dealt with loans: his job was to convince strategically important states to borrow gigantic sums of money for large-scale "science and technology" projects aimed at maintaining the interests of the wealthiest people, while plunging countries into poverty and debt. The more debt a country has, the easier it is to control.
