The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection

In 1859, Charles Darwin published one of the most famous and controversial books in the history of science — “The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection.” Darwin suggested that, on the contrary, groups of organisms gradually evolve through natural selection. Darwin's theory was developed so thoroughly, relied on such a vast amount of facts, explained so many mysterious phenomena, and finally pointed to so many new avenues for research that it established itself in science with remarkable speed, despite the fierce attacks of numerous opponents around the world.
