"Having traversed the earthly life through halves," an unnamed narrator finds himself… no, not in an old-fashioned gloomy forest, but in purgatory, which is a boring, gray, but quite comfortable city. Moreover, the city's inhabitants have the opportunity to visit the foothills of Paradise, which they are eagerly transported to by an old dusty bus.
Curious tourists find themselves in an unbelievably beautiful place, where they are greeted with open arms and invited to proceed upwards, into the heavenly groves. Just one step remains until eternal bliss, but why do the bus passengers hesitate and concoct thousands of reasons to turn back?..
