The natural plant glue gum arabic, which is an essential component of many watercolors, provides excellent adhesion (the strength of the bond with the surface) and prevents paint from shedding. The watercolor has a paste-like consistency, which is very convenient when working on large canvases. The paint hardly loses its original appearance over time.
