Red Pearl

After the death of Dmitry Matveev, the guilty party is found quickly: Maria Goltsova, the housekeeper of Makara Psaltyrnikova, comes under suspicion. Witness testimonies, indirect evidence, and a general confidence that the case is almost solved work against her. Klavdi Mamontov and Makara Psaltyrnikova do not accept this version and begin to investigate themselves. Their search does not follow a straight line: one episode reveals another, behind a private feud lies a long chain of old conflicts, and behind the apparent reason for the crime is a story in which too many have become accustomed to hiding the truth.
