Gone with the Wind. Volume 1

Scarlett O’Hara is used to getting what she wants and is unlike typical Southern ladies. Young men compete for her attention, but she has long been in love with Ashley Wilkes and is confident of his feelings in return. However, Ashley announces his engagement to Melanie Hamilton. Out of spite, the heroine marries one of her suitors without love. The war takes yesterday's boys to the front and leaves the young woman a widow. A smuggler, Rhett Butler, enters her life, with whom she can speak frankly, without adhering to conventions.
