After her father's death, Nadinka is left an orphan and moves with her nanny Agasha from the service dacha to a communal apartment. She is studying to become an engineer, getting used to her new life, and waiting for Sergey Ilyich, who is working in Leningrad on the construction of the atomic icebreaker «Lenin». The distance, rare phone calls, and the distrust of those around them complicate their relationship, while Sergey’s innovative ideas provoke not interest, but harassment. Against the backdrop of a large technical project unfolds a story of love, loyalty, and the price of human resilience.
