Arthur Schopenhauer — a German thinker whose philosophy of irrationalism still provokes debates and forces a reconsideration of conventional ideas about happiness and the meaning of life. His doctrine, known as «pessimistic philosophy», asserts that human life is meaningless, and that all actions are based on an unconscious «Will to Live» that drives desires. However, the satisfaction of desires does not bring true happiness: after a brief moment of joy comes saturation, boredom, and new suffering.
