Diary. 1901-1921

For the first time, excerpts from the diary of Korney Ivanovich Chukovsky were published in 1990, first in "Ogonyok", then in "Novy Mir". And already in the 2000s, the complete text of the "Diary", compiled and prepared by Elena Caesarovna Chukovskaya, the writer's granddaughter, is published for the first time. "I am convinced that time must capture itself in words. Just as it is, with all the details, even if someone does not like it," Elena Chukovskaya confessed in an interview. Chukovsky's "Diary" is an astonishing document of a "writer with deep and bitter experience, acutely aware of the complexity of relationships"; it is a reliable historical and literary chronicle of the era, covering almost 70 years from 1901 to 1969 of the 20th century.
This book includes entries from 1901–1921 with detailed historical and literary commentary, a chronograph of K.I. Chukovsky's life, an annotated name index, as well as photographs of the original diary.
