«Nightmare Hunters» — a series of comics published by «Azbuka» by Franck Thilliez, a recognized master of horror and thriller. The fourth book combines «Dossier 7: Sophian» and «Dossier 8: Jane» — tense stories in the best traditions of French BD.
The plot revolves around the sleep medicine clinic of Professor Angus, which, under the guise of working with memory problems, hides much more risky practices. When Ariana's friend — Sophian — disappears for four days and, upon his return, completely loses his memories, his parents bring him here. Ariana convinces the professor that she knows a way to help, and the «hunters» penetrate the young man's subconscious. Divided, they try to quickly find the lost fragments of memory, but soon encounter a frightening anomaly: Sophian remembers things he could not possibly know.
The story begins as a dynamic suspense with unexpected plot twists and an atmosphere of night terrors, and then raises a sharp ethical dilemma: is it permissible to invade someone else's subconscious, even if the motives seem noble. Stylistically, the comic resonates with «Stranger Things»: there is a secret laboratory, scientific experiments, and a constant sense of threat — deadly dangers lurk at every turn for the heroes.
At the center of the narrative — not only action and paranormal phenomena, but also deep psychological experiences of the characters. The expressive artistic style enhances the tension and makes each scene particularly memorable. For the first time in Russian — a story that will make you forget about sleep and keep you in suspense until the last page.
