The KGB Plays Chess

The Soviet system would not have been as meaningless as it was without providing such a "profitable" form of sport and recreation as chess, not only through the Chess Federation, not only through a department in the Sports Committee of the USSR, but also with the close supervision of the "armed squad of the Communist Party" - the KGB.
Due to the secretive nature of the KGB's work, its activities concerning leading Soviet chess players are described little and, importantly, unilaterally, mainly by chess players who were dissatisfied in their professional lives to confront the "care" of the KGB.

Now we have a unique opportunity to learn about the KGB's work "on the chess front" from within this organization.
