The joker of world politics became, for the Russian-Ukrainian war, the last, albeit very weak, source of hope for its cessation. The war is still ongoing, and Oleg Kashin leads its unique chronicle.

Now, when I see that the texts written since then have accumulated enough for more than one book, it's time to admit that my optimism has played a cruel trick on me; that is, I have been waiting for the end of the war, but there is no longer any point in saving texts for a volume that would end with a peaceful happy ending.
