Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Rick Deckard is assigned to find and eliminate a group of Nexus-6 androids that have escaped from an outer colony to Earth. To do this, he uses empathy tests, meets those who outwardly resemble humans, and gradually confronts the moral ambiguity of his work. Meanwhile, the book depicts the life of those who remain on the desolate planet: the lonely, traumatized, and dependent on artificial means to manage their emotions. The story weaves in John Isidor, Rachael Rosen, and the cult of Mercerism, through which the novel expands the ordinary hunt into a conversation about real life, pity, fear, and the right to consider someone "not one's own."
