Games and People

The monograph "Games and People," published in 1958, became one of the main works of Kiyua. Considering play as one of the parts of culture and one of the forms of human social behavior, he develops the sociology of games and supports the thesis that many forms of social behavior stem from the relationship of humans to games. Kiyua believes that play can be regarded as one of the three most important spheres of culture, alongside the spheres of the sacred and the profane. Play is a virtual reality in which one can model what is impossible in everyday life.
