Russian Bath. History and Traditions

The bath is an integral ancient element of Russian life. Since time immemorial, in Russian tradition, the bath has always been not only a place where one can wash and cleanse their body but also a special, almost sacred structure, where purification occurs not only on a physical level but also on a spiritual level.

The publication contains unique texts that vividly and colorfully present the history and traditions of the Russian bath. Separate chapters of the book are dedicated to the testimonies of ancient chroniclers, the memories of European travelers of the 16th-18th centuries, the works of Russian writers and historians, bath customs, beliefs, and omens.

The publication is richly illustrated with works of classical painting.
