Illustrated History of Medicine

The work of two German professors, Theodor Meyer-Stein and Karl Sudhoff, will guide us through several millennia of the history of medicine, from magic — to real science, from ancient times — to the "golden" 19th century.

Thanks to this book, we will learn about surgery in Ancient Babylon, visit medical institutions of Ancient Greece and the first medieval anatomical theaters in Europe, together with Paracelsus, invent the first "medications" from chemical compounds, observe the incredible experiments of Frederik Ruysch, witness the first vaccination performed by English physician Edward Jenner against smallpox, and, of course, appreciate the grand discoveries of Russian surgeon Nikolai Pirogov.

By the way, this book itself also has a history: it was published in the early 20th century, but is still considered one of the most outstanding and reliable sources in this field. One of its merits is the abundance of illustrations depicting various moments in the history of medical art, but for the new edition, we have prepared an improved illustrative series, where classic black-and-white illustrations are replaced with full-color reproductions of masterpieces of world painting.
